Welcome to my site where you can view my recent sculpture, painting, and installation! The work is both public and personal. Art should be meaningful and, like a good novel, reflect the struggle of life. For subject matter I look to my childhood, rich with memories growing up in a large family. I am also influenced by contemporary culture, growing up in the sixties, and becoming a mother in the eighties. There is a lot about nurturing in my artwork. In the nineties I had a residency at Norcal Company Waste Facility when I decided that nurturing the environment was urgently needed.

My large, public art is most often site specific, sensitive to location and surrounding community. I make public art in cast bronze, cast stone, fiberglass, welded steel, video, and robotic parts. I always make smaller, more intimate sculpture and paintings. The small artwork inspires the larger work and helps process ideas before they become large and public. I'm inspired and grateful to writers, like Julia Kristeva, who are able to express in words some of the complexity and importance of the maternal and care taking. As for my style, it is original and my own, but I am influenced by art history including Classical Art, Realism, Modernism, Expressionism, Surrealism, and what I call Fantasy Art. Three years ago I created an educational website, www.fantasyarts.net, (please visit!) on the subject of Fantasy Art interpreted broadly, using Webster's dictionary definition, "Art stemming from the imagination."
